General Information

With its 4-wheel drive and ½-ton carrying capacity, the Dodge WC-27 ambulance was a lifesaver and a workhorse on the battlefields of World War II. A versatile vehicle, the WC-27 could transport – in addition to a driver and a medic – six patients seated in the back or could carry four patients on stretchers.

During World War II, Dodge built nearly 30,000 ambulances in various forms for the USA and its allies, but less than 10 percent of those manufactured were the WC-27 model seen at the Heritage Flight Museum.

Specific Information

Our World War II ambulance bears the markings of the 332nd Fighter Group, the famed “Tuskegee Airmen,” and was generously donated by Mr. Ralph Peterson of Bellingham, a longtime contributor to the Heritage Flight Museum, both with artifacts and his spare time.
